Grace and Peace Missionary Fellowship
Widows

The Widow Program began in June of 2000 when Grace and Peace went into a Haitian Village to feed the children and several elderly ladies showed up asking for food. Once we inquired why only elderly women came with the children, we were informed that they were widows and had no means with which to provide for themselves without begging. We started with 13 widows from that village and today provide food, some clothing and medicine for 62 widows in 10 different communities close to Barahona. The widows come to a Bible Study once a week and Grace and Peace delivers food and medicine to their homes once a month. We have installed cement floors one by one in every widows home. We are now buying light-weight washers and cook stove-tops for those with severe arthritis or other ailments that make it hard for them to wash their clothes by hand or cook over a fire, which is cultural for the poor. Each new widow with high blood pressure is taken to a cardiologist for a thorough check-up. Each widow with diabetes is taken to a specialist to get regulated. Grace and Peace, to date, has built 5 homes for widows who had nowhere to live. Widow adoption is $40 a month. See our download page for a form to adopt a widow.
